The Eastern Door  is a community-based newspaper serving the community of Kahnawake since 1992, regardless of birth, gender, age, language, politics or religion. The paper strives to be a factual, balanced, authoritative source of information with access to all segments of the community.

Eastern Door Editor/Publisher Steve Bonspiel started his journalism career in January 2003 with The Nation magazine, a newspaper serving the Cree of northern Quebec. Since that time, he has won numerous regional and national awards for his in-depth, impassioned writing on a wide variety of subjects, including investigative pieces, features, editorials, columns, sports, human interest and hard news. He has freelanced for the Montreal Gazette, Toronto Star, Windspeaker, Nunatsiaq News, Calgary Herald, Native Peoples Magazine, and other Native publications. Steve was awarded the Paul Dumont-Frenette Award for journalist of the year with the Quebec Community Newspapers Association in 2015. He has also been QCNA president since 2012 and is currently developing curriculum at Concordia University for Indigenous Journalism Studies.

Ni:ne McComber

Ni:ne McComber has been in the public eye since she was a child working in the family business at Chief Poking Fire’s Indian Village here in Kahnawake. She learned at a young age the importance of business and becoming the people person she is today. She has been working in media since 1988, starting with K103 Radio and since 1992, has been working at The Eastern Door. Ni:ne enjoys being on the road meeting new people and exciting businesses. In 1996, Ni:ne was nominated as SODER’s “Personality of the Year” for her project uniting the communities of Kahnawake and Chateauguay after the Oka Crisis of 1990.

Tara Wall

Tara Wall is a bilingual advertising consultant. She graduated from O’Sullivan College in the Business Administration program with a Marketing specialization. Prior to joining The Eastern Door in 2003, Tara worked in banking, accounting and running her own business. She appreciates connecting with business people on a daily basis and loves helping to grow their business with our readers.

Dana Marquis

Dana Marquis started her career at The Eastern Door in 2003 as Administrative Assistant. During that time she learned graphics and began ad design for special supplements at The Eastern Door. When she returned from maternity leave, Dana left the front desk to continue graphics part-time. Dana now does the layout, ad design and other special projects and supplements at The Eastern Door.
