Shotgun blast sets off chase and capture of local

A local man is facing almost a dozen weapons and drugs charges after he was arrested following an alleged threat and assault on a neighbour on the Old Malone Highway.

According to a Kahnawake Peacekeeper report, Joey Brascoup allegedly pointed a shotgun at a neighbour on the Old Malone Highway and fired a round into the air before entering his residence and fleeing the scene without the gun.

The victim called the PKs, and all patrols responded to the call at 11:42 a.m. on Thursday, August 10.

Officer MJ McComber arrived at the residence and met the local male who reported the alleged assault, and told the officer the suspect left in a white Ford Explorer eastbound on the OMH towards the tunnel.

McComber pursued and intercepted the vehicle at 11:45 a.m. near JoJo’s Pawn Shop. Officers were advised to perform a high-risk take down due to the nature of the call, and the suspect complied with PK demands.

He was arrested without incident, brought to the station, and officers Donovan Fleischer and Watio Diabo took a statement from the victim and a witness.

The investigative unit was advised, and officers went to the suspect’s residence and the homeowner gave them permission to search the premise.

Officers recovered a loaded MS 26 SKS rifle with an attached bayonet with a 15-round magazine and one round in the chamber, in addition to the shotgun. Officers also seized two bags with 130 grams of suspected marijuana inside.

Brascoup appeared in court the same day and faces 11 charges, including assault with a weapon, uttering threats, pointing a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking.

Crown prosecutors objected to his release and he is being held.
